This is Futurliner #10. It was one of 12 built by GM for the Parade of Progress show in the 40s and 50s. Restoration, by a dedicated crew of volunteers, began in 1999. A display for the interior has been built by the volunteers but it is still hoped that GM will allow the American Crossroads display (the only original display remaining) to be restored and displayed in the Futurliner. |

RESURRECTING THE FUTURE FROM THE PAST |

Near the West Michigan lakeshore community of Zeeland, Michigan, an ambitious all-volunteer project restored a 1953 GM Futurliner. The restoration project took seven years (1999-2006) and was directed by Don Mayton, retired GM Plant Manager, is under the auspices of the NATMUS (National Automotive & Truck Museum of the United States, Inc.), located in Auburn, Indiana. Joe Bortz, of the Bortz Auto Collection located in Illinois, donated the Futurliner to NATMUS. NATMUS which owns the vehicle, but Don and a crew of volunteers restored it in Michigan. |
