This was a special work session in which Vos Glass had volunteered to install the 180-degree windshield in the Futurliner. John Clelland and Doug Bradley from Vos Glass volunteered their time to do this job. The original windshield from this Futurliner was missing. The folks in Canada that restored their Futurliner had three windshields reproduced. Actually the company that made the windshields made ten in order to get three good ones. One of these was used on their Futurliner, FIDO, one we (NATMUS) purchased over four years ago for $10,000, and the last one was purchased by Peter Pan Bus company in Springfield, Massachusetts and they installed it in their Futurliner.

John and Dan use special tools to work the seals.
They have well over 60 years experience between them of installing glass.

They started the installation by inspecting the preparatory work that we had done. Then they installed the windshield rubber seal on the upstanding metal flange that was on the bottom and the top of the windshield opening. They used over 20' of rubber windshield seal. Following that, they applied a soapy solution to this seal. Rubber cups were attached to the windshield and it was raised to its location. Then the very tedious and lengthy process of getting the glass into the folds of the rubber followed. Many specialized tools were used and with their expertise, after over four hours, the windshield was in place.

We want to thank the owner of Vos Glass for committing to take on this job and for John and Doug volunteering their services. John and Doug hail from Newaygo, Michigan, which is over a 50-mile trip in one direction. Thanks men!

Special caulk is used to seal the windshield.

The windshield looks fantastic.

The view through the windshield.

After installing the windshield, the men installed weather seal in the location of each of the two right and left 1/4 side vent windows. These are rather large for vent windows measuring 20" X 24". They then traced the glass opening. Their intention is to make two pieces of glass and for a temporary measure install 1/4 window vent glass. They will then work on the vent frames, repair them and at one time in the future install these so that once again these 1/4 windows can be opened and closed.
