April 11, 2003 was a milestone in the restoration process as the exterior painting was finished and the Futurliner moved back to the pole barn for trim work. The forty plus gallons of bondo that were applied to the Futurliner at Valley Truck Body, apparently had a bonding effect on the staff. They said they felt bad to see the Futurliner leave but were happy to have been a part of the project. They did a super job on the finish and painting. Left is a picture of most of the Valley crew.

The Futurliner is carefully backed down the driveway.

The Futurliner looks outstanding in its red and white paint. Now the big job of installing all that trim on the outside starts.

Del Carpenter took responsibility for getting the Futurliner back to Don's pole barn. He got a crew together of Jerry, Al, Mike, Wayne, Fred and others. They met at Valley where photos were taken of the work crew. Next, Merl's towing  service showed up. Del had requested Kurt Sharpe as their tow truck driver since he has moved the Futurliner before and can back it down the driveway without running off the side into the yard. The Futurliner was hooked up and made the 45 minute trip back to Beaver Dam and put in the barn. Del and crew had to use a jack to slide the rear of the Futurliner around.

In order for the Futurliner to be ready for the 75th Anniversary of GM's Styling show and the "EYES ON DESIGN" show, both in June, we have decided that we must work two days a week on the Futurliner. Starting Monday, April 14 we will be working both Monday's and Tuesdays on the Futurliner. Fortunately most of our volunteers will be back from Florida so we should have lots of help.
