Futurliner Whitewall TireThe Futurliner will be needing new tires to complete the project. Don Mayton met with Coker Tire and they have agreed to produce the wide white wall tires for free! However, to get the original raised letters 'GENERAL MOTORS", "PARADE OF PROGRESS", "U S ROYAL", "FLEETWAY" on the tires, it will require a mold change. The mold will cost $35,000. We will have to work on finding a way to raise the money since this will be a part of the restoration.
Parade of ProgressThe original Futurliner tires were 10:00 x 20 U S Royals with a very large wide-white. In the white area were the raised words: "U S Royal." "Parade of Progress" and "General Motors."  In the photo (above left), supplied by Joel Dirnberger, you can just make out the words "Parade of Progress"
Bad TireThis tire looks just as bad in real life as it does in the picture. It's hard to believe that it will even hold air. Don would like to obtain a good set of "skins" for the duration of the project. Tire size for the Futurliner is 10:00 X 20, which was is a common truck tire size for the 40s and 50s. If you have a few you can spare, please let him know.
