This is the 302 inline 6 used to power the Futurliner. These pictures were taken at Bill Bicknell's shop in Ohio. He volunteered to overhaul the engine.

We will actually be rebuilding two engines for the Futurliner. One is for "go" and the other is a spare. The spare will be set up on a display trailer for "show."

Engines that have been torn down and await their rebuild.

Bill noted that he found an interesting quality problem from the factory. The machining chips were never cleaned out of this short block. There were 50 year old rusty metal chips stuck in several cavities in the block. After Bill cleans them out, there will be no problem. However, if this engine had been installed without a teardown with the chips left in, the engine would likely have had major wear problems in just a few miles, once the chips got sucked up into the oil pump. The other short block didn't not have this problem.

All six pistons are laid out in a row.

Engine parts that have been cleaned and primed.

The 302 is being restored by Bill Bicknell of BICKNELL ENGINE CO., specializing in engine and vehicle restoration. Bill's shop is at 7055 Dayton Road, Enon, Ohio 45323. His phone is (937) 864-5224.
