1953, Shreveport -- Being shown how an experimental air bearing works is Mrs. W. A. Elston, one of more than 7,500 visitors who took in the opening night the of General Motors Parade of Progress. Explaining the bearing, which reduces friction to a minimum because it rides on a cushion of compressed air instead of oil, is John Conroy of Port Huron, Michigan, a lecturer for the show.
