The weather played a significant factor in the attendance at the Futurliner during the weekend associated with the Hot Rod Power Tour in Muskegon, Michigan.
Friday was the most raw and miserable of the show days with winds and rains throughout the show time of the event. Because of the wind and rain we only opened the cab for tours and attendance was poor. Although we did have a couple from the Netherlands who were enthralled with the vehicle. They were disappointed to find that the side door display on the Futurliner wasn’t open so they planned to come back on Saturday in the hopes that it would be open.
Saturday turned out to be a much better day. The sun was out and temperatures were more pleasant. We had a constant stream of visitors while the car-show was going on in the same lot. The couple from the Netherlands returned and spent a great deal of time thoroughly checking over the Futurliner and the displays. Shortly after the car-show ended the wind came up and the light bar was put down and secured. We started to feel a few raindrops as the wind increased so we closed up the display doors and put sales items away. We had just nicely gotten everything secured, when the rain came down by the bucketful. This ended our display time earlier than expected.
Sunday, the actual day of the tour coming to Muskegon, was by far the best day. Sunny and warm were the words of the day. Our location was right where the tour entered the downtown area so we couldn’t be missed. One of our crew was unable to catch what would have been an outstanding picture of people in their hot rods pointing at the Futurliner while people around the Futurliner were pointing at the hot rods.
We had many people stop by because they had seen the Futurliner on their way into town. A number of them expressed how they knew of or had read about the Futurliners, but never expected to actually see one in person.

The only challenge of the day was getting the Futurliner trailer out of the parking lot. What had been an empty parking lot for most of the day, at loading time it was the scene of a burnout pit. Crowds were large and cars were many and making it a tight fit to get the loaded Futurliner, out of there and back to it’s seasonal storage building.
